Why I’m running:

This first year in office, we joined the push to increase affordable housing options, drafted and secured council support for basic consumer protections for renters and manufactured home owners, invested in public health and safety, and navigated challenging budget realities. I am asking you to help build on this work together.

All the reasons why I decided to run in 2023 remain at crisis levels, especially overwhelmed social services and the rising cost-of-living. Let’s keep pushing for local progress.

Jace’s Track Record

  • Helped lead the push for allowing more affordable housing through common-sense land-use reform.

  • Brought together tenants, landlords, and service providers to draft ordinances against unfair and excessive fees in residential rentals and manufactured home communities.

  • In the context of plateauing revenues, proudly supported a budget that still made targeted investments in public health and safety and long-overdue increases in wages for the lowest-paid, essential city employees.

  • Led Community First Whatcom’s campaign raise the Bellingham minimum wage and adopt modest protections against extreme rent hikes.

  • Led the effort to get every vote counted for Prop. 5, the Healthy Children’s Fund. That effort secured nearly 100 million dollars to increase affordable, high-quality, and well-compensated childcare by only 20 votes out of more than a hundred thousand.

  • Managed the 2021 Whatcom Democrats campaign that protected our progressive County Council majority and the 2022 Whatcom Democrats campaign to flip the 42nd legislative district and elect three Democrats to the state legislature to ensure a pro-climate action, pro-labor, and pro-choice majority.

  • Former paraeducator working in public K-12 schools and pandemic grocery worker.
